Locals offer support in event of evacuation
Hundreds of people from Pico are providing accommodation for families on the island of São Jorge that can be evacuated.
On social media, a group was created for this purpose, with more than two thousand members yesterday afternoon, where hundreds of people provide accommodation to families in various locations on the island of Pico.
“My house is small but I always have room for a person or two; as they say, from the doors to the inside, everything is beds. I liked to help the people of São Jorge. Also the Scout Group 770 of Lajes do Pico makes its headquarters available for the reception of groups that need accommodation on the island of Pico. “The headquarters has three rooms, bathrooms and a small kitchen. Other gestures of solidarity are being made available by private companies in Pico, such as the “Buraca Adega”, informing that from Saturday the 6 rooms of the pension will be available for people from São Jorge who need to travel to Pico.
The municipality of São Roque do Pico will also provide six transport boxes for pets for trips between the island of São Jorge and the island of Pico. “Whoever needs a box to bring their pet safely, contact the Municipality of São Roque do Pico through the phone number 292648700”, reads another message.
Atlânticoline itself made it known that it changed the regulations for the transport of animals, stating that it allows the boarding of pets without a transport box.
