São Miguel to implement a tourist tax

The Ponta Delgada City Council approved, in a Council Meeting, the beginning of the opening of the Tourist Tax regulation process, which will be subject to analysis and debate with all individuals and institutions interested in making contributions.
Pedro Nascimento Cabral announced that all municipalities on the island of São Miguel are “in tune” to implement a tourist tax, starting in 2024.
Residents will not pay
“The procedure will be common in all municipalities on the island of São Miguel. We are in agreement that residents in the Azores do not pay a fee and we will propose that the maximum amount of the fee be two euros, per day, for a maximum of five days. We will begin the public consultation process to collect contributions from all people and entities interested in the matter”, explained the Mayor of Ponta Delgada.
Remember that in order to start with procedural participation, as approved for the creation of the Tourist Tax regulation, it is necessary to take deliberation at a Chamber meeting, to begin the period for presenting initial contributions and/or registrations from interested parties in the procedure. After the completion of this phase, with the collection and analysis of all contributions, the regulation will be presented at a Chamber Meeting, and will subsequently be presented for deliberation at the Municipal Assembly.
