Tourists to S. Jorge to get a €35 voucher

Açoriano Oriental reports that the Government of the Azores will grant a voucher of 35 euros to tourists visiting the island of São Jorge, to face the economic impacts of the seismovolcanic crisis, up to a maximum amount of 330 thousand euros.
The regulation of the “Welcome to São Jorge” voucher was published yesterday in the Official Journal, after being approved by the Government Council last Thursday.
According to the resolution of the Governing Council, it is “a financial incentive to boost the local economy, as a way of mitigating the impact resulting from the seismovolcanic crisis on the island of São Jorge, usable exclusively in the acquisition of goods or services in activities related to the tourism sector”.
The voucher begins to be awarded “five working days” after the publication of the resolution, and will remain in force until the global amount allocated to this measure is reached.
However, the Regional Government has planned a “quarterly reassessment” to determine its “continuity or cessation”.
